Clive is introduced as an extremely capable aide to Andel and the four generals. However, as the generals are defeated by Arc and company, Clive gains more power and approval from Andel. Near the end of the series, it is discovered that Clive has been working all along for his own benefit and doesn't care about anyone else- with the possible exception of Lieza, over whom he is strangely obsessive. He kidnaps Lieza because of her ability to communicate with and channel the spirits to use her in his evil plan for opening up the Ark. Clive is eventually the victim of his own scheming.
