Makai Senki Disgaia/Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Disgaea is a rather unique PlayStation2 SRPG, created by developer Nippon Ichi (creators of the Marl's Kingdom series) and published out of Japan by Atlus. You play the role of Laharl, the son of the now-deceased King of the Netherworld, who died while Laharl slumbered for two years. Now that he has been awakened, it's up to Laharl (and his vassals) to claim what is rightfully his. With possibilities ranging from bribing a council to exploring the depths inside your items/weapons, Disgaea implements many new fun factors into a game, not to mention a lot of humor.
Since its introduction, Disgaea has sparked a lot of popularity. It brought more coverage to the previously almost unknown Nippon Ichi (assisting the developer to make "NIS America" for in-house localizations), spawned some spiritual sequels as well as an official trilogy, brought about a short animation series, and has now been ported to the PSP and soon-to-be ported to the Nintendo DS. But will it stop there?
