Family and background
Chad's mother and father are deceased. His grandfather (also deceased), was Oscar Joaquín de la Rosa- a mestizo living in Mexico. Chad lived with his grandfather for a period during his childhood, assumedly after his parents' deaths; during this time, he picked quite a few fights while using his size to his advantage, and was determined to show off his strength through winning over others. It was at this point that his grandfather taught him to fight only to protect- a lesson Chad took very much to heart and carries with him along with another memento of his grandfather- a coin bearing the words "Republica Mexicana". He wears this coin as a necklace and it is an extremely precious item to him.
Chad is fiercely loyal to his friends, going to great lengths if necessary to protect or defend them. This is particularly true with Ichigo- they made a pact that they would fight for each other, or for whatever the other held precious, and Chad fully intends (and demonstrates his intent) to keep this promise, even to the death.
Amore e Morte
On his left shoulder, Chad sports a tattoo of a snake woven around a winged heart, with a banner that says "Amore e Morte"- in Latin, "Love and Death". It is unknown when or where he got this tattoo, though.
Power, armor, and abilities
Chad has two main "abilities" with which he engages enemies- they are
Brazo Derecha del Gigante (the "Right Arm of the Giant"), his initial armored arm for most of the series thus far, and
Brazo Izquierda del Diablo (the "Left Arm of the Devil"), a more recent technique, acquired in Hueco Mundo.
