Ryo's father is a well-off wildlife photographer who often takes off for extended periods of time, leaving money for Ryo to take care of himself. Ryo's mother died when he was young. His family is a famous ninja clan, but his father left the clan because it was too strict for his liking.

When he was four, Ryo met Byakuen (White Blaze), again when he was seven, and again when he was ten. Byakuen "chose" Ryo and Ryo began training under Kaosu (The Ancient).

Ryo's yoroi (armor) is Wildfire, hence he has a fire-element. He wields double katanas (Rekka Ken). His 'virtue' is Jin, Perfect Virtue.

Yoroiden Samurai Troopers first aired in Japan in April 1988. When it was brought overseas to the States in 1995, the name was changed to Ronin Warriors, along with character name changes/modifications. These changes are mentioned all over this page in parenthases ^_^ It first aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami (where most Americans found out about it) in September of 1999.
